Today is my 57th birthday, and today I am going to celebrate the people who have helped me become the person I am. And I LOVE the person I am. So thank you EVERYONE for helping me get here.
I think, at a child’s birth, if a mother could ask a fairy godmother to endow it with the most useful gift, that gift should be curiosity.
Mom, you didn’t need to ask a fairy godmother, you did it all by yourself. You not only helped nurture my curiosity, but my imagination and whimsy and delicious creativity. Thank you for Mother Goose and ballet and my theatre in the barn and the horses and all the costumes for Auntie Mame!
The greatest gift that you can give to others is the gift of unconditional love and acceptance.
This is you in a nutshell Dad. You have always accepted me no matter what stage I was going through. Thank you for reading me Winnie the Pooh, and instilling in me a love of nature. You helped me develop my logical, analytical self when I worked for you, which is an essential part of me.
If you look over the years, the styles have changed – the clothes, the hair, the production, the approach to the songs. The icing to the cake has changed flavors. But if you really look at the cake itself, it’s really the same.
Thanks my two brothers for going through those decades with me. I think you two really helped me to hone my sense of humor, even though all of us have different styles of funny. And you were both awesome for pitching in when I needed actors for my little plays in the barn (or the living room). Knowing how to boss around younger brothers helped me handle future employers!
We have to be able to grow up. Our wrinkles are our medals of the passage of life. They are what we have been through and who we want to be.
A deep thank you goes to my late husband. We went through so much together… we married, divorced, and remarried… we had 2 sons born 12 years apart to the day, the second in the car (what a great catch you made!). We probably worked better as partners in theatre, but I learned an amazing amount about how to love from you… even if we didn’t do it that well ourselves. Here’s to all our adventures!
God gave us the gift of life; it is up to us to give ourselves the gift of living well.
My sons have shaped my life, and continue to do so every day, no matter what age they are. I am incredibly proud of them and I like them as well as love them. I am extremely lucky to have two independent kids who have known their minds from the very first. Thanks for the challenges boys!
Presents don’t really mean much to me. I don’t want to sound mawkish, but – it was the realization that I have a great many people in my life who really love me, and who I really love.
Although the above photo doesn’t have all of my extended family in it, let it serve as a representation of of my aunts and uncles, cousins and nephews and nieces. It also includes my lovely daughter-in-law who is such a great partner to my son. It’s been wonderful to move from childhood to adulthood with all of you. I so enjoy that most of us share our ‘now’ stories on Facebook.
Speaking of social media, it’s a blast to be in contact with so many people from different times in my life. Childhood friends, former students of my late husband, my children’s friends, my former workmates, new friends and family, artist friends, blogging friends and Instagram friends! You all add dimension and delight to my life.
It takes a long time to become young.
Ever since I met my BFF I’ve felt young. She and I celebrate life in all of its complexities, knowing that we have each other. Thank you my soul sister for opening my heart… daily! And thank the goddess for texting! lol
Let us celebrate the occasion with wine and sweet words.
Here is where I thank EVERYONE ABOVE for getting me to the point where I can love someone as deeply as I love my husband. I’ve seen your sparkling soul my love and I embrace it with all my self. Here’s for everyone out there reading this… yes sparkling souls DO wear overalls!
My life is rich with love and delight. I wake up every day happy to be me. And I am brimming with appreciation for the complexities of this world, with its’ challenges, and opportunities to reach for new ones..
Happy Birthday to me, and Thank You All for being in my life!
