I wore my wellies this weekend and found well-being… ok maybe there was more to it than just the boots.
On Friday I finished the month-long Writing 101 I had enrolled my Two Cats and a Cattledog in. Phew… I think ‘we’ wrote good stuff, but I learned that I don’t like posting every day, it’s not good for my well-being.
So… I spent a sleepless night wondering what I DO like to do. Enlightenment eluded me.
Then... Wednesday my phone died. The grey screen of death… huge angst… A friend had a backup phone (exact kind I have) and he sent it.. It arrived Friday. And guess what? It wouldn’t turn on, even with a fully charged battery and much fiddling by hubby and me. It would be fun to get a newer phone for an upgraded camera, but really? Too big an investment now.
So… I spent another sleepless night wondering what I DO like to do, without having to spend money.
I love taking photos of my days and surroundings, looking for and finding beauty in everything. I love editing them. I love playing with them in fun and funky apps. I love telling stories with them. Independent of the phone problem I decided to get out my beautiful Lumix FZ35 (DSLR camera). I spent a year taking and sharing a photo a day with it and enjoyed it to no end. Why haven’t I been using it more? It’s gotten too easy to just use my phone camera.
So… Saturday morning I went out early with Cooper the Cattledog, and my Lumix to walk the ranch (in my new wellies). We had great fun and I took lots of shots. I was refreshed when I got back.
Then… on a whim I tried turning the backup phone on again… and low and behold it worked! I’ve now downloaded all my apps and contacts and restored everything. Big happy sigh. Go figure.
Moral of the story? I needed to get out my DSLR and use it again for the new door that is opening for me (whatever it is). The phones told me that. 😉
Here’s a gallery of a few of the photos I took on our morning walk. With my new wellies on, Cooper and I explored a part of the ranch I’d never been to. In the summer it is wet and swampy and overgrown. Now the water is gone and leaves off the undergrowth. It was a great adventure, as if I’d found an undiscovered country, along with a new sense of well-being.
I don’t have any plans to become a professional photographer, but I am a story-teller… a teller of the joy of just being yourself wherever you are in life. Enjoy the moment and revel in the beauty surrounding you. And always try your phone again even if you think its dead. 😉
