Random Moments of Delight #45: Twelve by Twelve on Twelve – Part Two

It’s my last Random Moments of Delight post for 2014. What a wonderful way to celebrate it with the opening of the 12-12-12 Photo Exhibit hosted by Meg Greene Malvasi of Move the Chair and Little Dogs Laugh.

It’s awesome being included with such a talented and wide variety of artists and their visions.

The 12th of December found me visiting my parents in Longmont, Colorado. I spent over ten days with them helping where I could and simply enjoying being with them. I mentioned in my last post (yikes, over a month ago) that my dad has a terminal illness. We found out in October that he has mesothelioma. Hospice has been great and he is very comfortable and quite active, considering everything. Their attitude is positive and humor a constant and welcome companion.

I took a creative break on the 12th and carried both my iPhone 4 and new Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (birthday present from my wonderful hubby) with me all over the neighborhood around my folks’ apartment building.

5 things I learned during this project:

1. There is no such thing as taking a quick shot with a smart phone when you are wearing gloves.

2. Early morning light during the Colorado winter is gorgeous.

3. Special lenses for my iPhone are fun, but the big screen on my new Samsung Galaxy Note is GREAT!

4. Taking a selfie with such a big phone, especially with two of us in the shot, is next to impossible.

5. I really hope that Photo Toaster makes an android version SOON.

Macro shot and fish-eye shot taken with an iPhone 4. All other shots taken with a Samsung Galaxy Note II. Photos processed with Snapseed, Photo Toaster and Pixlr Express.

This is a treasured gallery for me as each shot reminds me of that special week. I wheeled my dad around that park in his new wheelchair a few times, and grew to love it. The whimsical cross walk is right next to the coffee-house I frequented (love you Dad but making coffee isn’t your strong suit 😉 ).  In the shot “Polar Bear Stories” Dad was telling Mom and me a story about the Polar Bears he saw when he was in the Air Force in Buzzard’s Bay, Canada. And the graceful giraffe is named Manilda, and she has lost quite a few of her personal items around the park and Mom and I found them all.

I plan to visit for another week in January and am eagerly looking forward to it. My folks have had a lovely social life these past months. My son, daughter-in-law and grand-baby are visiting them now. Emma is my parents’ first great-grandchild and Dad is thrilled to meet her before he moves on.

First great grandchild visit.

First great-grandchild visits.

Thank you all for being such great friends and visiting my blog, hopefully enjoying what you find. I am looking forward to 2015… I’m not sure what direction my blog will head, or whether Random Moments of Delight will continue in its current form. I do know that I love the blogging community and I love my blog, so you can expect to hear from me loud and clear in the new year.

Happy New Year Everyone!
