Random Moments of Delight #3: Coloring Books

Did you color in coloring books where you were little?

I did. I loved it when my mom would color with me, she on one page of the open book and me on the other. I thought her side was so beautiful, graceful and flowing… and in the lines of course. 😉  She taught me a trick, to outline the part I wanted to color and then it was easier to stay inside the lines (if I wanted to… it was never ‘expected’, I just liked the harmony of it).

Even with a degree in art I still love to color. And I don’t mean creating sale-able art, but just coloring in coloring books… for fun… for meditation… to play with color… to make my inner child grin…

I have graduated to adult coloring books.

I think in the 25 plus years I’ve colored, I’ve gone through at least three Ruth Heller cat coloring books! I’m going to have to buy some of her other designs

I use art markers now instead of crayons.

But I still outline! I just do it afterward to add dimension.

A few weeks ago, after coloring with a young friend, I pulled out my coloring books again. This time I used some colored pencils my little friend gave me and I’m enjoying coloring with them in the kitchen while my husband cooks dinner.

It’s been awhile since I’ve colored and I’m enjoying the colored pencils (although I got out my Design Spectracolor pencils to augment the set of Crayola Twistables 😉 )

No matter how many colors I have, however, I still have a favorite color palette!

And many of my women have red hair… 😉

I’m so delighted to get out my coloring books again, it’s lovely to just play.

As always I welcome your comments on this post or any other part of my blog.

What random moment of delight would you like to talk about?

This challenge (or rather non-challenge) is about sharing moments of delight with each other each week (read here for more info).  You could share with a photograph, artwork, or a description; a video or a poem; a short story or essay, or a combination. Then link up here so we can share in each others’ happy moments.

The guidelines are simple:

  1. In a post share something that is delightful to you. It doesn’t matter if it happened this past week or a year ago, as memories of moments lift our hearts as well.

  2. Put a link back to this challenge so others may take part if they wish.  If you’d like to use the badge, please do, it’s on the right hand menu.

  3. Please use the address of your POST, not your blog, in the linky (below). And one post for more than one challenge is totally cool.

  4. The challenge begins on Sunday, but will stay open through Thursday, and a new one will begin the following Sunday. I chose Sunday to set us up for a wonderful week of looking for Random Moments of Delight (RMoD), but you can post any day you’d like through Thursday.

Wow Meghan! These are just stunning! I also loved to do it as a child and my granny taught me the same trick with the line. I love the colours you are using. Great shots as well! 😀 *hugs*

I'd love to hear from you!
