You’ll never guess what happened in my backyard this week… my Bird of Paradise bloomed!
Last spring our neighbors moved and we inherited some of the things they didn’t want to take with them. We got a set of wooden deck chairs and a great outdoor fountain. We also took on a very ratty Bird of Paradise plant. I don’t have a photo of what it looked like then, but it was scraggly and half its leaves were dead or ripped.
Even now it seems too small in proportion to its pot.
I set up a little sitting area in front of our bedroom window, looking out on the back yard. I installed the fountain, put the two wooden chairs there, hooked up some festive twinkle lights and placed the pathetic plant next to my chair. I didn’t have much hope for it, but I watered it and ran the fountain through June to keep it company (ok, so I liked the fountain too 😉 ). Then we went to Idaho for a month. Even though it was hot out on the cement and it didn’t get watered much while we were gone, the Bird of Paradise survived the summer.
This past fall I got a job and didn’t spend any time out on my little patio and it fell into disrepair.
Apparently, the plant didn’t care a bit, because when I went out to water it last week I found a blossom…
This is a wonderful Random Moment of Delight for me. I LOVE Bird of Paradise and I am so pleased this one is happy in my back yard. The one blossom is destined for a vase, but I am such a proud mama… there are 7 baby Bird of Paradise just waiting to blossom… Time to clean up the patio!
This challenge (my first ever hosting) is about sharing moments of delight with each other each week (read here for more info). You could share with a photograph, artwork, or a description; a video or a poem; a short story or essay, or a combination. Then link up here so we can share in each other’s happy moments.
The guidelines are simple:
In a post share a treasured moment(s) with a photograph, description, poem, short prose, short video, original artwork, whatever genre fits your moment. It doesn’t matter if it happened the past week or a year ago, as memories of moments lift our hearts as well.
Put a link back to my challenge so others may take part if they wish. If you’d like to use the badge, please do, it’s on the right hand menu.
Please use the address of your POST, not your blog, in the linky.
The challenge begins on Sunday, but will stay open through Thursday, and a new one will begin the following Sunday. I chose Sunday to set us up for a wonderful week of looking for Random Moments of Delight (RMoD), but you can post any day you’d like through Thursday!
