This week WordPress congratulated me on my three-year blogiversary, and I remembered how new I was to blogging in 2011.
In the spring of 2011 I decided to start a photo-blog. It was the year I was taking a photo a day and posting it on Facebook with an appropriate caption. My son graciously agreed to let me use one of his domains and I started my own self-hosted WordPress blog.
Apr 3, 2011. Hand brewed mocha, check; Trader Joe’s chocolate almond biscotti, check; note paper and pen, check; WordPress for Dummies on Kindle, check; Dashboard up on my WordPress blog page on laptop, check; cat in background waiting for me to sit, check. I think I’m set to create my own basic photoblog site today!
I am so glad I had a WordPress for Dummies book since learning WordPress is a challenge, especially for someone totally new to blogging!
Apr 9, 2011. I set up a work station in my bedroom today to work seriously on my photoblog. My hope was that with multiple cat beds around and the computer off my lap, I would be more mobile and the cats wouldn’t get in my way…. ya right.
It must have been a week later that I created an account with WordPress.com. I don’t have a true blog there, the front page merely refers people to my self-hosted blog.
I played with all sorts of themes. At that time the blog was called Meghan’s Eye View.
Apr 23, 2011. All I did today was work on my photoblog. I LOVE it! So much fun.
I was so new I didn’t know anything about the blogging universe and never explored other people’s blogs. All I really did was learn a lot about WordPress, explore the wonderful world of free plugins and fun widgets, and then post the blog post to my poor Facebook friends (my only audience 😉 ).
Eventually things got busy at work and the blog got dusty. I would guess the only thing I did in August (the next photo) was change the theme… again!
Aug 21, 2011. Thought I’d spend some time working on my photoblog today. It’s been awhile since I’ve done anything but post my daily photos [directly to Facebook].
That was it for that iteration of my blog. Tim came into my life a few months later and romance swept me away from it for a couple of years.
About this time last year, I dusted the blog off and re-purposed it. I wanted it to be uplifting and humorous as well as photographic. I renamed it Meghan aka FireBonnet, and over the next few months bought my domain name and subscribed to a self-hosting service. This iteration of the blog will be one year old on May 15.
I was still new to the blogosphere, and it took me about six months to begin posting regularly and start interacting with bloggers, as well as develop my ‘voice’. It was so fun this week to be reminded by WordPress of my first attempts at blogging. I’ve got a big smile on my face as I look back at those photos from 2011… I’ve come a long way baby! 😉
Thank you so much for visiting. Your comments warm my heart and put a smile in my day. I’d love to hear your random moments of delight. This non-challenge is about sharing special moments with each other (more info here). Please put a link back here, in your post, so others may take part if they wish.
