Buffy Cat is in double trouble today through the magic of double exposure.
Double Trouble… Buffy plots to finally catch that hummingbird. Double exposure created in PicsArt.

Welcome back to Week 9 of the Snappy H’appy Photo Challenge hosted by weliveinaflat and firebonnet 😉

This challenge asks you to (1) share a good photo that you took or edited last week, (2) run it through a photo app on your smartphone or mobile device and share with us the result. We’re back to the theme of Light. This week, let’s explore Double Exposure.

For a double exposure you need to start with two photos. Here are the two I used to create the image above.

You’ll notice that I flipped Buffy around to better balance the hummingbird in the double exposure.

I decided to try a different subject for this next one.

tree fire together
Fire Dreams, double exposure created in PicsArt, edited further in Pixlr Express.

Here are the two images I used.

This time I flipped (and cropped) the tree to work better with the fire. That tree is in double trouble!

Which one should I put in my Snappy H’appy gallery for this week for double exposure?  As always I welcome your comments on this or any other part of my blog.

  1. I want to revisit the cat and bird one… I think the hummingbird was just a little too dark to have it work perfectly. But for a first try I am very happy with it.

  2. Terribly fond of the cat/bird (of course!). Those two just naturally go together. I have used PicsArt some now, but not for this purpose. so will have to check that option out on the app.

  3. Thanks Meg. That’s one of the techniques I want to revisit. I wasn’t totally happy with my results. Maybe for this new challenge I will.

  4. It looks like JX has this week’s number wrong. Color splash is week 10, if you count all our pics in the grids. I cant wait to see yours! I’ll head over in a minute.

  5. Thanks! Yes, Buffy has become quite the bird hunter lately so it was a no brainer… luckily hummingbirds are far off her hit list. It’s time to put a bell on this little lady.

  6. I love how it seems that Buffy is almost visualizing or dreaming of her bird in the picture. What a creative idea to put those two together!

  7. I like how you showed the before and after. I like the first, mushed together and the second split apart. But but but… It’s all good. 🙂

  8. Yes I took all those pictures Justine. You do need an app or program to flip a photo. I used the app PicsArt to both flip and superimpose. What kind of smartphone and tablet do you use? I can recommend some good apps.

  9. I used PicsArt for the double exposure. But because both of these came out dark I also played with them in Pixlr Express.

  10. That’s really clever I love the bird pic did you take it? It’s truly stunning and Buffy is always funny 🙂

Two questions how do you flip something ie as you did with Buffy? Did you use an ap for that?
Also what ap do you use to superimpose? That’s new to me two pics in one I’m not sure I love it but I like it
