If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.

Wonderful observation about the power of words. I loved the books of children’s rhymes (Mother Goose etc) myself… guess the cadence and deliciousness led to dance and acting for me.

Yes, Albert Einstein! It will at the very least instill the love of words and the realization of their power. My favorite book when I was little was Fifty Famous Fairytales. I grew up to be a teacher and an author. I may not have a lot of raw intelligence, but the importance of sharing words and communicating is there!

Here is another of his quotes along those lines .. “When I examine myself and my methods of thought, I come to the conclusion that the gift of fantasy has meant more to me than any talent for abstract, positive thinking.”

I think the idea is that imagination and “what if” (there were dragons or unicorns) is what helps us think out of the box.

This is a gorgeous bit of detail you captured. I love stuff like this. Tell me, why do you think Einstein felt that hearing fairy tales contributed to children’s intelligence?

I'd love to hear from you!
