Christmas Cards… well, I’ve been around long enough to have an evolving approach to this tradition. My Mom has always been great at sending out Christmas cards and family update letters to her list of friends and relatives so I learned from the best.
I started out with the regular cards you buy in a store, along with the (computer) letter. Did I ever do hand written messages? If I did the memories are long gone.
Then I moved to the kind of cards where your names are printed on the inside, and the letter started getting more newslettery.
Of course there were years when we went with the photo cards, and the obligatory posed portrait thrown in.
During busy years our friends and family were lucky to even get a newsletter… This one was a brochure with a panel for each of us (Mom, Dad, and two boys) and a front and back.
When I learned the program Publisher, the cards got fun and I incorporated photos in the card itself, including the pets! And I went back to a letter for the updates.
Eventually, I went to ‘cards’ attached to emails and put together things like this collage. I was able to personalize them easily and the letter was in the body of the email.
Now that we have Facebook and other social media, I don’t do a card and certainly not a newsletter. Everyone I would send it to are on Facebook and keep up with my family and me every week. However, I send Hallmark’s hoops & yoyo e-cards to everyone for a wonderful burst of cheer during the holidays.
As always, I’d love to read your comments on this or any of my blogs!
