Christmas Challenge: Day 4 – Most Memorable

I’m going to have to go with three most memorable Christmases with this prompt.

My first amazingly memorable Christmas was the birth of my first child.  He was born on December 23, 1981.  We were living in Coeur d’Alene, ID then and I remember we were out of the hospital the next day and ready to go to a friend’s Christmas dinner on the 25th. We were such a young couple and it was the best Christmas gift we could imagine …

Number One Son

Most second memorable Christmas was in 1993 when my second child was born.  Amazingly the boys were born on the same day 12 years apart.  What are the odds? (My late husband and I were in the theatre, so we were a little dramatic.)  This story gets even more incredible … this is what I wrote for his birth announcement (names excluded for privacy):

Son number two carries on the dramatic aspects of our family.  Mild labor started for Meghan at about 2:45 a.m., water broke at 4:00 and we got on the road by 4:30, with Meghan still experiencing only mild contractions.  Our son decided to come out an hour later at the Hickory Run rest stop on the Pennsylvania turnpike, in the back seat of our two-door Toyota Tercel, on the way to the birthing center in Bethlehem (Bethlehem – Christmas – hmmm?).  Meghan’s mom helped her disrobe, Meghan delivered the head, and his dad caught his body (from the front seat while holding the door of the car slightly open with his foot to get the dome light to stay on).  Meanwhile, his older brother was rummaging in the suitcase, in the trunk, in the dark, for swaddling clothes.  Baby boy was peacefully placed on his mom’s bare belly and breast still attached to the cord, covered with various clean sweatpants, bathrobes, towels and receiving blankets, and quietly joined this reality.

I suppose we shouldn’t have been surprised at his hasty entrance, it was his due date and he probably wanted to make it in time for his brother’s birthday party at noon.

Number Two Son

My third most memorable Christmas was in 2011.  A few days before Christmas, my now husband proposed to me.  He buttered me up with gifts of Breyer Christmas Collectible horses (as if I needed buttering up) before he shyly asked the question… Madly in love with him, of course I said yes.  He pulled an heirloom ring out of his pocket (how classic) to clinch the deal.  We were on cloud nine that Christmas, and I’m not sure we have ever left! 🙂

Part of our Christmas decorations now are the Breyer horses dressed in all their holiday finery.  What a wonderful reminder of that Christmas.

There you have it!  Three amazing life events, all at Christmastime.

Using new life as timelines for Christmas memories. How wonderful. Love the Byers horses. I might need to find one to accompany my carolers 🙂 Merry Christmas and thanks for sharing your blog hop!

Thanks Ruby! Tim’s mom (my hubby) had the ring made with her original engagement diamond and one from a great auntie (we think). She designed it. According to the jeweler they are both older cuts that isn’t used much anymore. I love it!

Thank you Daisy! It was one of those peak moments in life that I will never forget… looking into his sweet eyes in the soft light as the snow gently fell. Love at first sight.

Wow, these are all amazing Christmas stories! That’s crazy both your boys were born on the exact same day. I love the story of your second son, wonderful! And your ring is beautiful 🙂
